A Guide To Making New Friendships
Nobody wants to be a one-man show. We all want to broaden our social circle and surround ourselves with people who make us happy. In life, we sometimes go through periods of feeling lonely especially if our friends are too busy for us. Some of us also find it hard to make new friends in the first place and instead go through life with very few of them.
However, it’s never too late to find those special people. You just need to be proactive. I believe it’s important to have at least one very close friend, a partner in crime, BFF or whatever you want to call it. Someone who you can rely on and will be there no matter what.
The importance of having a good group of friends
It’s important to have different types of friends too. Friends to have fun with, friends to inspire you and friends to network with. The larger your social circle is, the more opportunities you will have in life. For example, I have a very large, international group of friends. Meaning, every time I go abroad I usually know at least one person living in that country or city who can show me around and host me. This doesn’t mean you should make lots of friends just to use them – absolutely not! Relationships are reciprocal and built on mutually exchanging value. The more you give, the more you’ll receive. This applies to both business and pleasure.
How do you make new friends?
CHANGE YOUR ATTITUDE
Be proactive and put yourself out there. Don’t just sit at home!
Try your best to be social and outgoing, even if you’re the opposite by nature.
Happiness and positivity is the best way to attract people into your life.
Try to be relaxed and friendly when you interact with new people. Ask genuine questions, be sincere and the rest will follow!
Where to find new friends?
This is a great website that’s entirely focused on making new friends, and it’s not a dating website. I’ve used this myself and met some great friends that have become very close. It’s available for most big cities.
GET TO KNOW FRIENDS OF FRIENDS
Network through your existing friends by trying to get to know their friends. Add them on Facebook and stay in touch. Keep the conversation going if you have many things in common, and invite them out for coffee every once in a while.
START A NEW HOBBIE OR GET INVOLVED IN AN ORGANISATION
Hobbies or group activities is a guaranteed way to meet new people who share the same interests as you.
BECOME A REGULAR SOMEWHERE
Whether it’s a gym, pub or boutique, become a regular there. Be friendly to the staff and other customers, and they will begin to recognise you and possibly want to hang out with you. Good luck!
